Why we started our live music business

We have recently reached the finals of a prestigious awards for the wedding industry, which is a huge milestone for our wedding business! I thought it would be the perfect time to revisit our why, and what makes performing at weddings the best job in the world!

Performing live music at weddings holds such a special place in my heart. It’s so much more than just the music – it’s about being part of one of the most meaningful moments in people’s lives. Over time, I’ve come to realise that the magic of live music at weddings is unlike any other performance, and here’s why I fell head over heels in love with it.

The Emotional Connection that live music offers

One of the reasons I love performing at weddings is the emotional connection it creates. Unlike a typical performance or gig, a wedding is carved and created with emotions. You’re not just playing for an audience; you’re playing for couples who are experiencing one of the most significant moments of their lives. The love, the joy, the nervous excitement — it’s all in the air, and as a musician, I get to be part of that emotional journey. I see tears in the eyes of parents, smiles from friends, and pure happiness radiating from the couple - quite often seen through tears from my own eyes! The energy of those moments is like no other, and it’s something I remember and cherish for a long time after the wedding.

Front Row Seats to the Best Moments

How many jobs give you front-row seats to the most meaningful moments of couples’ lives. The photographer, videographer and the celebrant perhaps, but not many! The musicians are often the ones to start and finish the ceremony, and that is an absolute privilege to experience these beautiful moments firsthand.

Creating Timeless Memories

Weddings are about making memories, and music plays a vital role in creating those memories. Each song I perform can become a lasting part of a couple’s love story. Being the one to provide that backdrop allows me to contribute to something truly significant. When people hear that song years later, it brings them back to that magical day – and I get to be a part of that connection as well, as there's so many times where I will hear a song we've played for someone's special day, and it will take us right back to that moment.

The Personal Touch

Live music offers something that recorded tracks just can't do. When I’m performing live, the music just connects with the couple and their guests beautifully. Whether it’s adjusting the tempo or the genre to match the mood of the room, playing a song that means something to the couple, or simply interacting with the guests through music, the live aspect of the performance creates an experience that’s so unique to each wedding and each couple.

The Joy of Making People Happy

Let's be honest, weddings are about love and celebration. Knowing that by performing live we can play a part in making someone's special day even better is so rewarding. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being the reason someone smiles and sings along to a track they love, or seeing our couples look at each other when they hear their favourite songs that we've handpicked for them, it really is something else!

The Flexibility

No two weddings are ever the same, and I absolutely love that about weddings. Every couple brings their own personality, and song choices to the day, making each wedding an entirely different experience. Whether it’s a surprise request for a song, an unexpected moment that requires us to think on our feet, or simply tailoring the performance to the audience, I love that every time we perform at a wedding, it will be the only time we perform exactly like that!

So that is why I fell in love with performing at weddings, and why I am so grateful for our wonderful couples for voting for us in this years I Do Wedding Awards! I sincerely hope this is just the start of things to come for our business, as if I can be performing at weddings for as long as I can, I'll be a very happy and content singer!
